Rental cars in Hawaii for Dummies

November 5, 2008 12:33 AM • by Learn about Hawaii • Posted to Hawaii | Hawaii Services | Hawaii Vacation | Comments (2) | Permalink
Now you have spent all this money to visit Hawaii so how are you going to visit all the sites?

One way is a guided tour where you have to use their itinerary or rent a car.  Now you are ready to rent your car but have never rented a car before, the best way to learn how to choose a company and the vehicle you want is to check out Hawaii for dummies.  When you rent a car with the increasing traffic, you want to get one that is comfortable to you and your budget. Some look at the convertible but you have to decide between the importance and value of having a convertible.

The cost of a convertible can be substantial sometimes double the rental rate, you have to decide if it is worth it and the budget you have planned. If you have rented a car regular, be sure to ask about the upgrade specials you could get a great off- season deal.  Be sure to check well in advance to reserve the best value as in the peak season it will be harder to find the car you want so reserve it early.  When you are getting the rental car be sure to conceder collision insurance, since Hawaii is a no fault state. If you have ever had to pay for a car accident then you know how expensive it is and if you have a accident you will have to pay for any damages before you can leave the state, so it may be the best bargain you ever got.   When you get your rental car be sure to follow the rules of the road, as in most states you must have a seatbelt on and have child restraints for all children under 4 years old.

When coming to a cross walk where there are pedestrians they have the right of way. The use of horns is to be for warning's and not anger, please be kind.  Keep your valuables safe and not locked in the car as there are thieves that will relieve you of your valuables. When you are ready, be sure to get a map and plan your trip so that you can enjoy your trip to the fullest. Be safe and be sure to check out Hawaii for dummies.

One thing we reccomend to people hiring rental cars in new Zealand is to bring their own gps unit with them as most companies here charge at least $15 per unit per day.
