Burgers on the Edge Review

October 25, 2008 4:21 PM • by Hisurf Staff • Posted to Hawaii Food | Comments (1) | Permalink

burgers-main.jpgWhen Oahu's largest Safeway opened earlier this year, they also added a whole lot of retail spaces for other businesses. One of them was a fancy burger joint called Burgers on the Edge. We decided to give them a try.

I love my burgers, and I think I know a good burger when I taste it. I had very high expectations of Burgers on the Edge, especially since they are owned and operated by the same folks who own the classy Formaggio's restaurant and wine bar up the street.

The restaurant itself is quite small. There was a very small indoor eat-in place with 3 tables and a few more outside. The layout is quite nice, with flat panel TV's for menus and a walk through of how to make your own burger. There were also tear-off checklist menus that you could use to help you build your own burger.

I opted for a burger with bleu cheese, bacon, onions, sundried tomatoes, garlic aioli on their special Mauna Kea Baking Company bun and a side of fries. There were also options for premium ground chuck or wagyu beef. I chose the ground chuck as the wagyu was $12.49!!! They also have chicken breast, portabella mushroom or turkey burger if you want a non-beef burger alternative.

Now one would think that a burger with all of those toppings would taste great right? *BUZZ* WRONG. The burger was pretty much tasteless and rather bland. The bun fell apart as I was eating the burger making it quite messy. Needless to say I was quite disappointed with it. For $8.49, I really felt I could have done better. I'm not sure why it was tasteless, but it didn't leave me wanting to return.

This place reminds me of another mainland burger place called The Counter, except they had really awesome burgers there. Hawaii will get it's first The Counter at the end of the year at Kahala Mall.

My friends have told me that the more expensive Wagyu beef is much juicier and tastier and I should try it. Perhaps this is what you should try if you ever head down to Burgers on the Edge yourself.

After eating at Burgers on the EdgeiI felt like I had the best burger in Honolulu. I love the wide selection of condiments to compliment that juicy patty. Great job!d
